Economic development

In 2004, the co-founders of the Outer Islands Partnership, Inc. provided the initial loan to build a small general store on the island of Houk. Owned and operated by Sophia Esu, the store continues to operate to this day. Funds from the store has been able to help the family with educational, medical, and other basic needs for the people. In 2010, we plan on expanding this small store to serve the needs of the outer islanders who live abroad to be able to purchase supplies for their families on Houk.
