Volunteer Program

Volunteer Program

We are happy to announce that Xavier High School in Chuuk, Micronesia has officially committed to serve as a partner school to host the first volunteer in the new Outer Island Fellows Program. This is an opportunity for a college graduate to spend one academic year volunteering as a teacher at a local school in Micronesia. While there, the Fellow will also engage in intercultural immersion opportunities with and services for the impoverished outer island communities.  With an expected starting date in July 2010, the program incorporates the best practices of the Jesuit Volunteers International (JVI), Peace Corps Volunteers (PCV), Kiva Fellows program, and the Xavier Residential Learning Community at Santa Clara University.  Thanks to Fr. Rich McAuliff, SJ, the Director of Xavier Micronesia, the Outer Island Fellow will have the dual purpose of teaching at the premiere college preparatory school in Micronesia while advancing the mission of the Outer Islands Partnership “to empower the children and women in the outer islands of Micronesia.” For more information and the application form, visit: http://outerislands.org/about/fellows-program/
