ADVANCE TEAM: Arrival Support Team Arrival: Members of the Support Team arrived a week prior to the clinic dates to oversee final arrangements with the local contacts. They were followed a few days later by Dr. Barry Staley, Director of the Micronesia Dental Support Project.
Team's Arrival: The rest of Team 2008 arrived in Chuuk and was given a VIP treatment thanks in part to the support of the Chuuk State Department of Public Affairs (Director Angelino Rosokow), Airport Authority (Director Toyo Mori), National Department of Immigration Services (Director, Jens Irons). The Team and their accompanying family members were welcomed by the staff of the Chuuk State Dental Health Clinic and the local team who treated them with mwaramwar.
Public Health Clinic: The Team started the day early with a brief meeting and tour of the Chuuk State Hospital and welcoming remarks by the Deputy Director of Health Services for the State, Dr. Ichin. They were then given 3 operating rooms at the Dental Health Clinic to see patients.
DAY 6: Thursday, June 12, 2008 Iras Village (Outer Islanders Community): The Mayor and traditional chief of Pollap invited the Team to hold the clinic in the Pollap Community Center in Iras.
Farewell Reception: The management of Blue Lagoon Dive Resort hosted a farewell dinner for the Team with traditional dance entertainment provided by the outer island youth of Pollap.

(Kneeling) Edmund Heldart '09, Lisa, Penny, Setik '09 (Missing) Judy, Trip Summary Our inaugural trip to the State of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia was a complete success. Eventhough high fuel costs forced the cancellation of all flights of the Caroline Islands Air to the outer islands through Micronesia, the Team had prepared for it by focusing its services on various villages on the main island of Weno and Toloas in the lagoon. The sites included the Chuuk State Public Health Clinic, College of Micronesia - Chuuk Campus, Toloas Municipal Center, Xavier High School campus, Iras for the Outer Islanders. In a week, the MDSP Team served over 500 patients in remote clinics helped by 2 local Dental Assistants, 4 local Student Assistants, and local volunteers who served with logistical arrangements. The MDSP Team left Chuuk with a tremendous gratitude for the hospitality and trust encountered in the eyes of the hundreds of children and parents who came to take part of the free community dental services offered by the MDSP Team.
Jet Lag Picnic Day: To help recover from the long flight and jet lag, the Team spent the day on a picnic and snorkeling trip to Fanamu Island catered by the Blue Lagoon Dive Shop.
Toloas Municipal Center: Upon the invitation of Mayor Gradvin Aisek, the Team traveled by speed boats to a nearby island called Toloas and served over 60 patients.
Sapuk
Village Community: Xavier High School hosted the Team
on campus to conduct free community dental clinic to the people
of Sapuk and nearby villages.
Hosted Dinner : The Chief of Dental Health Division for Chuuk State and all his dental staff at the Chuuk State Dental Health Clinic surprised the Team with a hosted dinner in their honor.
Departure: The Team was given a sent off at the airport by the outer islanders and members of the Chuuk State Dental Health staff.
